BlackBerry has announced its new CEO will be company insider John Giamatteo, who was leading the cybersecurity segment. He fills the position after John Chen, the previous CEO, stepped down in November. Richard Lynch, who was an interim CEO since November 04, will continue his role as the board chair.
BlackBerry has also abandoned its earlier plan of an IPO for the IoT business, opting instead to independently operate its cybersecurity and IoT units. Giamatteo, as the new CEO, will be responsible for streamlining BlackBerry's centralized functions into business-unit-specific teams, with a focus on profitability and positive cash flow.
Prior to joining BlackBerry in October 2021, Giamatteo served for six years as the president of McAfee.
