According to The Information, Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok and Pico, has reportedly canceled the development of the Pico 5 VR headset. The decision was made after the Pico 4, released in October 2022, failed to meet sales expectations. The Pico 5 was initially planned for release at the end of 2024.
Bytedance is shifting its focus to an updated version of Pico 4 and a long-term project, codenamed “Swan.” The Swan project aims to develop a high-end headset, partly inspired by the Apple Vision Pro. However, it remains largely conceptual, and it is unclear if it will become a commercial product.
