Holcim, showcased Phoenix, a 3D-printed concrete bridge made with 10 tons of recycled materials at its Invention Hub in Europe. Phoenix has been developed in collaboration with Block Research Group at ETH Zurich, Zaha Hadid Architects Computation & Design Group, and incremental3D. Holcim claims the technology is the first of its kind and showcases how low-carbon, circular technologies can be utilized in critical infrastructure applications.
Phoenix is constructed from a custom concrete ink formulated with recycled materials within the company's proprietary ECOCycle circular technology. Phoenix's design relies solely on compression and does not require reinforcement, features easily detachable and reusable blocks, and results in up to 50% reduction in materials used without compromising on performance.
