ABB Robotics and XtalPi partner to automate laboratory workstations in China

Partnerships

  • ABB, a provider of industrial automation and robotics technology, has partnered with pharmaceutical company XtalPi to create automated laboratory workstations in China, aimed at increasing productivity in the R&D processes in sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, chemistry, chemical engineering, and new energy materials.

  • The two companies initially partnered in 2022, when XtalPi purchased over 100 GoFa cobots, a collaborative robot by ABB, to create automated laboratory workstations at its testing facility in Shanghai, China. Under the new partnership, XtalPi will use GoFa cobots to carry out a range of repetitive tasks in their automated workstations, including diluting and filtration workstations, reaction workstations, UPLC testing workstations, and glovebox workstations. The cobots will also be deployed at sample warehouses and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).
