Northvolt, a European EV battery and energy storage producer, has raised CAD 200 million (~USD 150 million) in convertible debt from CDPQ.
The funds raised will be used to facilitate the Northvolt Six sustainable battery gigafactory project in Québec. Construction of the fully integrated battery factory is expected to start by the end of 2023.
Earlier in 2023, Northvolt had raised around USD 1.2 billion in convertible notes, which was an extension of a USD 1.1 billion convertible note from July 2022, to support the company’s Europe and North America expansion plans. Participants in these prior rounds included IMCO, Blackrock, CPP Investments, and OMERS.
