Luminar, a manufacturer of LiDAR sensors, has revealed a new automatic emergency steering (AES) feature, which is integrated with its Iris Plus sensor, at CES 2024. The solution is designed to leverage laser sensing technologies in combination with a vehicle's existing safety mechanisms to avert accidents autonomously.
The solution can spot potential obstacles, with a range reaching up to 300 m under suitable conditions, and initiate driving strategies quicker than the vehicle's driver. The company states that this new technology could significantly reduce the occurrence of road collisions, subject to third-party verification by organizations, such as the AAA, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and Consumer Reports.
Moreover, the company also entered a partnership with Mercedes Benz to integrate its Iris Plus LiDAR in the official FIA F1 safety car, a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
