Kia Corporation has announced its future strategy called Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) at CES 2024. The new strategy involves the development of a modular vehicle termed the Kia Concept PV5, a fit-for-purpose EV that includes software based on the Hyundai Motor Group's software-to-everything strategy.
Divided into three phases, the strategy will begin with the introduction of the PV5, a multi-purpose EV that can be reconfigured for different needs such as ride-hailing, deliveries, and utilities. Kia plans to focus on improving data connectivity between vehicles and automating the collection of external data, such as route or delivery information.
The second and third phases of the plan involve the completion of the dedicated PBV model line-up, and the creation of AI-based mobility platforms that use data to interact with users, help keep vehicles updated, and provide customizable mobility solutions.
The company plans to develop a range of versions of the PV5 available in the future, including “Basic,” “Van,” “High Roof,” and “Chassis Cab.” It also plans to introduce a robotaxi model developed with Motional, a joint venture between HMG and Aptiv, to enable autonomous ride-hailing applications.
