Bramble Energy, a hydrogen fuel-cell manufacturer, has tested its hydrogen-powered narrowboat in the UK's inland waterways under real-world conditions as a part of its HyTime project.
The demonstration is the first of its kind and serves as proof of concept for Bramble’s printed circuit board fuel-cell (PCBFC) technology. Bramble aims to decarbonize maritime emissions by replacing diesel engines in boats.
The company claims its marine vessels would be capable of reducing 12 tons of CO2 emissions per vessel per year. Bramble’s fuel-cell systems are equipped with onboard hydrogen storage and solar panels for a 600-mile range.
Bramble plans to analyze the test results to develop future marine PCBFCs at its Hydrogen Innovation Hub in Crawley, England.
