Sakana AI raises USD 30 million in seed funding to expand team and further develop AI techniques

Funding

  • Sakana AI, a provider of foundation models, has raised USD 30 million in a seed funding round led by Lux Capital and Khosla Ventures, with the participation of Sony, NTT, and KDDI.

  • The funds will be invested to expand the team and further develop its AI techniques.

  • Based in Japan and founded by several ex-Google researchers, Sakana AI adopts a different approach to AI through the development of smaller and more efficient models. The startup, inspired by collective animal behavior, claims cooperation among small, specialized AI models outweighs single large models.
