ZeroAvia and Verne partner to explore cryo-compressed hydrogen use in aviation

Partnerships

  • ZeroAvia, a hydrogen-based aviation solutions developer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Verne, a startup focusing on cryo-compressed hydrogen technology, to explore opportunities for using cryo-compressed hydrogen (CcH2) onboard aircraft and for conducting CcH2 refueling from gaseous hydrogen (GH2) and liquid hydrogen (LH2) sources.

  • The two companies intend to assess the potential benefits of scaling CcH2 storage and refueling infrastructure at airports globally and will also work together to develop a model for initial airport locations in California.

  • Verne's data suggests this technology can significantly improve hydrogen density and reduce cost and refueling time. The cryo-compressed hydrogen can achieve 40% greater usable hydrogen density than liquid hydrogen and 200% greater usable hydrogen density than 350-bar gaseous hydrogen.
