Microsoft is reportedly developing cheaper, smaller AI models, similar to large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI's GPT-4, to capture opportunities in the market. The models are claimed to use less computing power than LLMs.
The smaller language models are intended for conversational AI applications that need less computational power than the software from OpenAI. The company has tasked Microsoft Corporate Vice President Misha Bilenko with leading the new research team and moved several senior AI developers to the new team.
