Remilk, an Israeli biotech company, has received a “letter of no objection” from Health Canada to use and market its animal-free milk protein, BLG, in Canada.
This approval will allow this animal-free protein—developed through precision fermentation—to be used in dairy products such as milk, ice cream, yogurt, and cream cheese.
Analyst QuickTake: With this approval, Remilk becomes the first company to be greenlit for a precision fermentation-derived protein in Canada. The company has also received Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status in the US and approval from the Singapore Food Authority to sell its products in Singapore.
