Sony tests PlayStation VR2 headset support for PC gaming

Partnerships

  • Sony announced that it was working on making its PlayStation VR2 headset compatible with a PC; the headset will initially be intended exclusively for the PS5.

  • The key feature under exploration now is the headset's possible compatibility with PC gaming rigs, offering more gaming options to users. The headset was connected as a secondary screen when it was previously tested last year on a PC; however, SteamVR didn't recognize it.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The modification of Sony’s PSVR 2 headset could significantly broaden the company’s user base, as individuals can access established PC VR titles, compared to Sony’s more limited VR-compatible titles. Further, individuals will no longer be required to purchase Sony’s PS5 (retailing between USD 450 and USD 500) for the headset.
