Reconomy, a provider of outsourced waste management, recycling services, and environmental compliance, has acquired German recycling logistics company and broker Sudamin Rohstoff for an undisclosed sum to support its international expansion strategy.
Sudamin Rohstoff is a leading supplier in the recovery of valuable metals from the steel industry. It also holds the approvals and licenses for brokering waste disposal and battery and black mass recovery services, where it collects metal-containing residues from electro-steel plants across Europe and delivers them to specialist recycling facilities.
The company intends to explore synergies that Sudamin can generate with existing businesses in its portfolio, such as Denmark-based Green Tech development business Combineering to develop solutions for steel byproducts.
Analyst QuickTake: Reconomy has been actively taking steps to expand its geographic footprint and build synergies among its service offerings, acquiring Ecosurety’s UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Batteries Compliance Schemes in November 2023. Sudamin marks the company’s third German acquisition, having acquired Reverse Logistics Group in December 2020 and packaging compliance services company Noventiz in October 2020 .
