Food Brewer raises CHF 5 million in seed funding for R&D and capacity expansion

Funding

  • Food Brewer, a Swiss biotech startup specializing in alternative ingredients from plant cell cultures, has raised CHF 5 million (~USD 5.7 million) in seed funding backed by The Zürcher Kantonalbank, Max Felchlin AG, and several other investors.

  • The startup intends to channel the fresh capital toward R&D for its cell lines, expand to a production facility, and improve its business model.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Plant cell-culture technology used by Food Brewer involves in vitro cultivating plant cells, tissues, and organs under controlled conditions. This technology is less dependent on arable land and climatic conditions than traditional farming and can provide sustainable and controlled production methods to help meet the growing global demand for food.
