Carbios and Landbell Group partner to use bio-recycling technology for PET and textile waste

Partnerships

  • Carbios, a French biotech firm that recycles PET plastics and polyester fibers using an enzymatic process, has teamed up with Landbell Group, a company providing closed-loop recycling solutions to process post-consumer PET and textile waste at Carbios' Longlaville facility from 2026.

  • The collaboration leverages Landbell Group’s expertise in acquiring and preparing PET and textile waste with Carbios' enzyme technology to achieve more efficient recycling practices, reducing water and energy usage. By 2026, Landbell Group will provide Carbios 15 kt/year of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) flakes to help produce PTA (purified terephthalic acid) and MEG (monoethylene glycol), which are key inputs in making PET products.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The sourcing partnership represents a key component in advancing the company’s bio-recycling technology and utilizing its new plant’s annual post-consumer PET waste processing capacity of ~50,000 tons. Carbios has raised ~USD 243 million to fund the plant’s construction from investors, which include Indorama Ventures and the French Government.
