Apple updated its VisionOS to version 1.1, which is relevant to its Vision Pro headset. Alongside general improvements, the update brings improved user persona representation, including changes to hair and makeup appearance and the portrayal of the neck, mouth, and eyes.
Notably, Apple’s EyeSight tech has been improved, enabling a more accurate representation of the user's eyes when wearing the headset. It also allows users to establish their personas in a "Hands-free Capture" mode and introduces a mobile device management system for businesses to more effectively govern their devices. Features include configuring devices, installing applications en masse, and facilitating remote erasure of the device.
Apple identified the need for enterprises to manage these devices at scale and have integrated the necessary technology into VisionOS. Additionally, the update introduces numerous minor enhancements, like allowing system app deletion from Home View, improvements to Mac connections, upgrades to the virtual keyboard for better input accuracy, and revised controls for closed captions.
Analyst QuickTake: The update aims to tackle negative reviews by critics on the “uncanny” nature of Apple’s generated avatars. Similar to other operating systems that Apple created (such as macOS), the Vision Pro is likely to see numerous quality-of-life improvements in the future.
