GEA, a supplier of systems and components to the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors, is investing EUR 18 million (~USD 20 million) in a 10,000 sqm. technology center in Janesville, Wisconsin. Slated for operation by 2025, the center will focus on alternative proteins, including microbial, cell-based, and plant-based foods.
The technology center will focus on scaling food solutions and industrial production and will provide processes for testing and validation, eliminating the need for producers to invest in their own infrastructure. Moreover, it will train biotechnology specialists and facilitate interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Analyst QuickTake: In June 2023 , GEA inaugurated a similar facility in Hildesheim, Germany, known as the New Food Application and Technology Center of Excellence, making this new facility its second investment in novel food applications.
