The European Parliament has passed the AI Act to prevent the misuse of high-risk AI while promoting innovation and enhancing Europe's leadership in the field. The law was approved by 523 votes to 46, with 49 abstentions.
The legislation will regulate foundation models and GenAI, such as OpenAI, which are trained on large volumes of data to generate new content and perform tasks.
Analyst QuickTake: The act passed now had the technical details advanced and agreed upon by EU member states' representatives in early February.
