Lemonade, a full-stack insurer that provides a range of personal lines insurance products such as renters', homeowners', life, car, and pet insurance, launched its homeowners' insurance in France in partnership with BNP Paribas Cardif, benefiting from the latter's extensive experience in the domestic market for over 50 years.
The policy starts at EUR 10 per month (~USD 11 per month). In addition to the base coverage, which includes protection against fire, water damage, reconstruction costs, and civil liability, it offers a suite of add-ons such as school insurance, legal protection, and theft coverage outside the home.
French residents can purchase this policy through the Lemonade App or via BNP Paribas Cardif’s website. Lemonade is licensed and regulated by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) and operates in France under the European Freedom of Services regime. The homeowners' policy is underwritten jointly by BNP Paribas Cardif and Lemonade Insurance N.V. as co-insurers.
Analyst QuickTake: Lemonade entered France in December 2020 by offering renters' insurance. The introduction of homeowners' insurance further bolsters the company's ambitions for global expansion, marking its transition from a monoline insurer to a multi-line insurer in Europe.
