Ethos, a digital life insurance provider, raised USD 200 million in Series D funding at a valuation of more than USD 2 billion. The round was led by General Catalyst with participation from Sequoia Capital, Accel, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Jay-Z's Roc Nation, and Glade Brook Capital Partners. Ethos’ total funding now stands at USD 306.5 million.
The company expects to use the funding for product development and launching new products.
Ethos reported revenue growth of more than 500% year-over-year as of May 2021 and plans to issue life insurance covering more than USD 20 billion over 2021.
Founded in 2016, Ethos offers digital life insurance using data science to issue insurance policies. This is in contrast to traditional approaches which require applicants to obtain medical tests. Ethos operates under an agency model, issuing policies which are written by insurance giants such as Legal & General and AAA Life.
