Google Cloud launches Axion, a custom-built arm processor for improved performance and efficiency

Product updates

  • Google Cloud announced its first custom-built Arm processor, Axion, joining AWS and Azure as a part of the Arm-based infrastructure.

  • Axion is designed based on Arm’s Neoverse 2 designs. Google claims it offers 30% better performance than other Arm-based instances and up to 50% better performance and 60% better energy efficiency than comparable X86-based instances.

  • Google draws attention to the adaptability of the Axion processors. As they are built on an open foundation, it allows Google Cloud customers to transfer their existing Arm workloads to Google Cloud with no alterations required.
