The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in Britain has issued warnings over the dominance of a few large technology companies, including Google, Amazon, and Meta, in the field of foundation models (FMs).
The CMA claims that this consolidation of power could negatively impact competition, consumer choice, and innovation in AI spheres. The watchdog noted the possibility of these monopolies shaping the FM markets unfavorably, possibly reducing consumer choice and quality, and increasing prices.
Furthermore, the UK Government and the Republic of Korea have announced dates for the second AI summit, which will take place in Seoul on May 21 and 22. The UK Government is working toward introducing binding requirements for FMs and investing EUR 100 million (~USD 107 million) in AI research hubs and frameworks.
