Nobell Foods rebrands as Alpine Bio; acquires 10th US patent

Industry news

  • Nobell Foods, a plant-based dairy startup, has rebranded as Alpine Bio to align with the company's vision of advancing biotechnical capabilities and developing innovative dairy-free products. Nobell Foods will operate as a division of Alpine Bio and drive the expansion and development of plant-based casein and other ingredients.

  • Additionally, the company acquired its 10th US patent, covering dairy food compositions containing plant-expressed recombinant casein proteins. This method aims to replicate traditional dairy products using plant systems to improve production efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Moreover, the company plans to debut its animal-free mozzarella cheese on the market by 2025.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Nobell Foods’ proprietary method allows it to recreate the genetic code of casein in soybean seeds and grow plants with the same dairy casein. This plant-derived casein is used to produce plant-based cheeses with similar stretch, melt, and mouthfeel as real cheese. The company plans to initially supply foodservice companies, focusing on pizza chains and retail channels.
