AMD has announced new PC chips, the Ryzen Pro 8040 Series and the Ryzen Pro 8000 Series, aimed at business applications and engineered to bring AI processing capabilities to laptops and desktops.
The key feature of these business-centric chips includes a dedicated neural processing unit to conduct AI-focused tasks such as image generation and chatbot functionalities. The chips are constructed using TSMC’s 4-nanometer manufacturing process, allowing increased density of transistors. Ryzen Pro 8000 series chips are intended for desktops, whereas the Ryzen Pro 8040 series targets laptops.
AMD claims that these advanced chips can provide companies with the ability to run AI technologies locally on their PCs, offering privacy perks with data remaining on-site rather than on the internet. The company also suggests that the new Ryzen AI Pro chips can boost productivity by offering enhanced processing for "productivity-boosting" features on PCs.
Analyst QuickTake: This launch builds on AMD's efforts, including its recent partnership with Arena AI to challenge Intel’s chips across various CPU benchmarks. Furthermore, these chip introductions come on the heels of other hardware infrastructure companies like NVIDIA and Radxa launching AI-focused chips and system-on-modules.
