Meta announced that its ‘Meta Horizon OS’ mixed reality operating system can now be leveraged by third-party device makers. Asus, Lenovo, and Microsoft's Xbox were the first companies announced to develop devices that run on the software.
Asus and Microsoft’s Xbox will be developing a headset dedicated to gaming, while Lenovo’s device will be tailored toward entertainment, productivity, and learning. However, the devices themselves may take a few years to launch.
The core features of Meta Horizon OS include access to technologies used for eye, face, hand, and body tracking as well as high-resolution passthrough. The passthrough attribute notably enables users to still visualize their surroundings while using the virtual reality or augmented reality headset.
