Luminar Technologies, a manufacturer of LiDAR sensors, has partnered with vehicle software supplier Applied Intuition to develop advanced driver-assistance systems (ASAS) and autonomous driving technologies for car manufacturers. Initially, they are offering validated sensor models of Luminar LiDARs for testing in Applied Intuition's physics-based sensor simulator.
This tool will enable real-world scenario simulation, improving safety procedures and reducing testing costs. Additional features include Luminar's sensor model validation, efficient test running in cloud simulation, and performance assessment.
The companies plan to make validated sensor models of the Luminar “Iris and “Iris+” LiDARs available soon, with the inclusion of Luminar “Halo” LiDAR to follow, its latest next-gen LiDAR sensor unveiled today. Halo is a compact, low-cost LiDAR solution pitched toward vehicles, including low-cost cars.
Luminar has also started producing and delivering automotive-grade LiDAR sensors for Volvo Cars, marking a significant advancement as the Volvo EX90 becomes the first global consumer vehicle to standardize this technology.
