Ohmium, a manufacturer of modular interlocking proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers that produce pressurized green hydrogen, has partnered with H2 Green Mining, a joint venture between Susterra and Star Energy Partners that develops green hydrogen projects to advance sustainable mining practices, to do the same in Chile.
The two companies aim to develop a 20 MW green hydrogen pilot project in Northern Chile, with the potential to scale to 200 MW. As such, Ohmium’s electrolyzers will generate hydrogen for the copper smelting process and other thermal processes in the mines. Additionally, they may fuel trucks transporting minerals to the port in Mejillones.
Analyst QuickTake: In July 2023 , Ohmium partnered with Aquastill, a modular membrane distillation company, to use desalinated seawater as an input for green hydrogen production. The two companies aimed to integrate Aquastill’s desalination capabilities with Ohmium’s modular green hydrogen electrolyzers to provide opportunities for businesses operating in coastal areas to produce clean energy and facilitate new applications for green hydrogen production, including co-locating PEM electrolyzers with offshore wind farms.
