Meatly unveils affordable protein-free culture medium for cultivated meat production

Product updates

  • Meatly (formerly Good Dog Food), a British pet food company, has introduced a novel protein-free culture medium priced at GBP 1 (~USD 1.3) per liter to offer a cost-effective solution for cell-cultured meat production.

  • This culture medium excludes serums, animal-derived components, microcarriers, steroids, hormones, growth factors, and antibiotics and instead uses food-safe ingredients.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The prices of culture media significantly impact the industry's viability, affecting production costs and consumer prices. The industry has made significant strides in this area and has brought down the prices of culture mediums from thousands of dollars to around USD 376.80 . However, to make cultivated meat commercially viable, the cost may need to be reduced to around USD 1 per liter or less , which Meatly has achieved with its new development.
