Google announces 'Firebase Genkit' to simplify AI-powered app development at I/O 2024 conference

Product updates

  • Google introduced the addition of a "Firebase Genkit" tool to its Firebase platform at the I/O 2024 conference. It is an open-source framework designed to simplify the creation of AI-based applications, including content generation, summarization, text translation, and image generation.

  • It supports several programming languages, including JavaScript and TypeScript, and will also support "Go" in the future. Moreover, it allows developers to integrate AI into new and existing apps and test and deploy their apps locally using Google’s serverless platforms.

  • Google claims that Genkit will be user-friendly, extensible according to developers' needs, and support a range of third-party open-source projects. Additionally, Google’s Project IDX will support Genkit’s developer UI, enhancing its usability.
