UK regulators have decided not to investigate the partnership between Microsoft and Mistral AI, an open-source developer of foundation models.
The Competition and Markets Authority concluded that the partnership's structure doesn't bestow excessive rights or influence on Microsoft and required no investigation under the UK's merger rules.
Analyst QuickTake: Previously, EU antitrust regulators also investigated Microsoft's USD 13 billion investment in OpenAI and concluded that it is not an acquisition and does not require a formal investigation. However, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in Britain also announced that it would investigate recent AI acquisitions by Microsoft and Amazon , just last month.
