Sweegen launches sugar alternative range made from novel sweet protein

Product updates

  • Sweegen, an alternative ingredients company specializing in natural sweeteners, has launched Sweetensify, a sugar alternative range made from the brazzein protein. This range combines brazzein with other sweet proteins like thaumatin II to reduce sugar content in foods.

  • Brazzein, a protein derived from the West African oubli fruit, is calorie-free, heat-stable, and offers 500x–2,000x more sweetness than sugar. Further, it can enhance other tastes like umami and does not affect blood sugar levels as it's synthesized as a protein by the body.

  • Sweegen, founded in 2013, develops natural, non-caloric sweeteners for the food and beverage industry. Its portfolio includes a range of stevia-based sweeteners and taste modulation technologies to reduce sugar content while enhancing taste and texture.
