Walmart announced the launch of Walmart Realm, a metaverse focused on shopping experiences.
Walmart Realm offers three shopping "realms," leveraging technology from Emperia for its creation. Each realm is curated by a social media influencer and represents specific trends: "So Jelly," which is underwater-themed; "Y’allternative," focusing on vintage Americana; and "Go Chromatic," which emphasizes beauty and fashion.
The metaverse also includes gamification elements so users can interact with products and access giveaways.
Analyst QuickTake: The launch of Walmart’s standalone metaverse experience follows the company launching a virtual world on Roblox ( Discovered , September 2023). Further, in April 2024 , the company expanded the functionality of its Discovered virtual world to allow consumers to order physical products for delivery.
