Sony officially announced a USD 59.99 PC adapter for its PlayStation VR2 headset. The adapter, slated to launch on August 7, aims to extend the utility of the PS5-exclusive headset by enabling compatibility with all Steam VR games on PCs.
According to Sony, the PlayStation VR2’s PC adapter will support all Steam VR games, including major titles such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. However, users will need a DisplayPort cable and a Steam account to play these games on a PC using the adapter.
While the PlayStation VR2 was originally designed for the PS5, the adapter can still harness features such as 4K visuals, a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, foveated rendering, and 3D audio in supported games. However, it might lack certain PS5-specific features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback.
Analyst QuickTake: The move provides a sizable increase in VR game titles users can experience using their PS VR 2 headset, with the PlayStation Store currently offering over 500 game titles. In comparison, Steam lists nearly 1,000 game titles under its "Popular" category, with over 5,000 VR titles on its platform.
