Meta rolled out its v66 firmware update for its Quest 3 headset, aiming to enhance user experience by addressing some basic issues related to real-world and in-game interactivity.
The update introduces several key features, including wrist buttons for menu access (also available for the Quest 2 and Pro), reduced visual distortion around hands, support for background audio for multitasking, and high-resolution Netflix streaming via its browser.
Additionally, the update offers functionalities like hiding any app for a clutter-free library, auto-identification of real-world objects like windows, doors, etc., and syncing of photos and videos from the headset to a web gallery.
Analyst QuickTake: Meta has been introducing firmware updates on a monthly basis for its XR headset portfolio. The news follows its v65 update in May 2024 , allowing users to import panoramas from iPhones, and its v64 update in April 2024 , improving resolution and image quality in passthrough mode.
