Huawei executive claims Ascend 910B AI chip outperforms NVIDIA A100

Industry news

  • Huawei's executive, Wang Tao, recently suggested in a conference that its Ascend 910B AI chip holds certain advantages over the NVIDIA A100 processor, even outperforming it by 20% in some tests.

  • According to some tests, the Ascend 910B was 80% as efficient as NVIDIA's A100 for LLM training. In addition, it outperformed the NVIDIA processor by 20% in some situations, which signifies better computing power performance.

  • Despite facing various challenges, including US sanctions and being disadvantaged in certain technological aspects, Huawei's Ascend 910B AI chip is claimed to thrive in the Chinese market. The success can be credited to the support from the Chinese consumers for their local companies over foreign ones, along with the offering of 2900 AI app solutions.
