At its WWDC 2024 event, Apple declared that Canon is working on a new lens for its EOS R7 camera (priced at USD 1,100), tailor-made for creating spatial videos.
The new spatial lens is an RF-S 7.8 mm f/4 STM lens aimed at content creators who produce immersive videos. It is slated for release later in June. The lens will require Canon’s EOS R7 camera (priced at USD 1,500), which is also compatible with the company’s EOS VR Utility software solution for editing stereoscopic footage.
Canon aims to create more affordable means for creators to capture immersive content, with its first RF model costing USD 2,000 (launched in December 2021). This also requires an EOS R6 Mark II, Canon EOS R5, or EOS R5 C camera, with costs ranging between USD 2,500 and USD 4,300 at launch.
