SolAero Technologies receives funding from Biden to accelerate solar-cell production

Funding

  • SolAero Technologies, a New Mexico-based subsidiary of Rocket Lab manufacturing solar panels and cells for space power applications, has secured ~USD 24 million via a federal grant to accelerate production of the solar-cell components used in satellites and spacecraft.

  • Along with the federal grant, the state of New Mexico—where SolAero is situated—pledged funding and incentives of ~USD 25.5 million. Rocket Labs declared the funds would help complete the Albuquerque facilities and create over a hundred manufacturing jobs. Production of solar cells is expected to increase by 50% near 2027.
