Evercoast, a firm that specializes in 3D spatial video software, has acquired Depthkit, a company involved in volumetric capture technology, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will enable Evercoast to bolster its capabilities in capturing and generating 3D digital humans and spatial video. Specifically, its tech stack will allow for Gaussian splatting and radiance field rendering, spatial editing for complex sequences, and a web streaming platform, among others. This will fill a gap in training GenAI models to convert 2D videos into 3D, using the extensive datasets collected by both companies.
Depthkit provides portable volumetric video capturing and livestreaming solutions using depth sensors. The company's technology can capture subjects in full motion, producing realistic human hologram performances that can be placed in interactive 3D environments.
Evercoast specializes in volumetric capture production services, offering a proprietary system to capture footage in a studio environment. The system operates by recording data from multiple cameras to create a 3D representation of the subject, which can then be rendered and manipulated in various ways.
Analyst QuickTake: Evercoast’s studio solutions are targeted at enterprises, given its high-end pricing. The company’s software platform to capture, edit, and stream volumetric content is priced at USD 34,995, with its hardware kit priced at USD 39,995. Additionally, captured content can be played on the Quest 3, Apple Vision Pro, and mobile devices.
