Perplexity partners with SoftBank for AI search engine promotion in Japan

Partnerships

  • Japanese telecom company SoftBank Corp. has partnered with Perplexity, a GenAI-powered search engine, to expand operations in Japan.

  • Through this partnership, SoftBank will offer customers of its mobile services, such as SoftBank, Y! mobile, and LINEMO, a one-year free subscription to Perplexity Pro, the premium version of Perplexity's AI search engine.

  • This exclusive offer for SoftBank's customers in Japan promotes Perplexity's AI-powered search capabilities. These capabilities provide answers based on the latest web information while displaying sources.

  • Analyst Quicktake: Perplexity raised USD 63 million in April to use the funds to assist the company’s global expansion plans and increase its user base. It also launched Enterprise Pro, a service tailored for business use with enhanced security and privacy features, priced at USD 40 per month. At the time, it was reported that the company had partnered with several Japanese telecom companies, including Japan's SoftBank Corp. and Germany's Deutsche Telekom AG; however, further details were not disclosed.
