Tap Systems announces upgraded TapXR wrist-worn controller and SDK

Product updates

  • Wearable device creator Tap Systems announced an upgraded version of its TapXR wrist-worn controller at the Augmented World Expo 2024.

  • The TapXR module weighs only 14 g and can be worn on the wrist or tethered to a smartwatch. It is compatible with various XR headsets and glasses and can connect via Bluetooth to devices like phones, laptops, and gaming consoles.

  • TapXR consists of an opto-mechanical technology that can detect more than 35 distinct gestures, claiming 99% accuracy for gesture recognition. It supports multi-finger gestures for typing, navigation, selecting, dragging, and activating content in spatial and standard computing environments.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Apple’s Vision Pro also offers gesture navigation across applications, utilizing in-built infrared cameras for hand and eye tracking. Additionally, the improved device follows its initial announcement in October 2022 (priced at USD 199).
