WHW Recycling and BASF partner to enhance sustainable battery production in Europe

Partnerships

  • WHW Recycling, a German company specializing in recycling electrode foils, has partnered with leading chemical and material science company BASF to process battery cathode and anode waste in Europe.

  • The partners seek to process EV battery waste into components, using a proprietary process to recover most materials in a highly pure form. The recovered materials will then be utilized by BASF to refine and produce battery-grade minerals.

  • WHW Recycling is a joint venture between Walch Holding and Štefan Hanigovský, owner of the Slovakian waste management company Fecupral. As per the partnership, WHW also plans to establish two new separation plants in Germany by the end of 2024.
