RootWave partners with Garford Farm Machinery to develop eWeeding technology

Partnerships

  • RootWave, a UK-based manufacturer of electrical weed control (eWeeding) systems, has partnered with a manufacturer of mechanical weed control products, Garford Farm Machinery, to create innovative weeding solutions.

  • Both companies expect to integrate electrical weeding into precision-guided toolbar systems, where this technology will be used across a range of crop types and farm sizes. The partnership claims to reduce weeding costs from EUR 55 (~USD 59) to EUR 120 (~USD 129) per hectare.

  • The RootWave system uses a patented high-frequency alternating current to boil weeds and roots, having the benefit of not requiring chemicals and not damaging soil. The partnership will see the RootWave system being used alongside Garford’s Robocop Vision Guidance System, which uses video cameras and image analysis computers to locate crop positions and guide the weeding system.
