ExLabs, a next-generation aerospace company, announced a ~USD 1.9 million tactical funding increase (TACFI) from SpaceWERX, enabling it to advance technology for capturing space objects. ExLabs had also previously received USD 1.7 million from SpaceWERX to develop its Autonomous Capture and Acquisition project.
The funding will be used to develop ExLab's ACQR (autonomous capture and acquisition robot) and its space exploration and resource vehicle (SERV), a spacecraft with a payload capacity of 30 metric tons.
Analyst QuickTake: ExLabs is developing a mission to converge with asteroid Apophis in 2028 before it reaches Earth. The 2028 mission would involve ExLabs setting cubesats near Apophis' orbit, using the company's ACQR and SERV technologies.
