AI infrastructure startup Substrate Labs has raised USD 8 million in a seed funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. South Park Commons, Craft Ventures, and individual investors Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Immad Akhund (Mercury), and Will Gaybrick (Stripe) participated in the round.
The company will utilize the capital to build APIs that simplify the development of more modular AI systems.
Formed in 2023, Substrate Labs offers resourceful APIs for AI. These incorporate finely tuned open-source AI models across several modalities, such as images, text, audio, and semantic vectors. Substrate Labs aims to optimize these models for large-scale implementations, placing importance on the speed at which one model's outcomes can be utilized as another's inputs.
