SpaceX, a space travel and launch company, launched "Astra 1P" for Luxembourg fleet operator SES toward geostationary orbit. Subsequently, it will displace four older satellites stationed over Europe.
A Falcon 9 became airborne by 5:35 p.m. EDT from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station after being postponed by a day due to weather concerns. After 35 minutes, the Astra 1P reached geostationary orbit, along with the rocket's first stage landing in the Atlantic Ocean on a droneship.
The Astra 1P is expected to spend much of 2024 reaching its orbital slot using its electric propulsion. By January 2025, with its greater capacity, it would displace the four older satellites. Then, the Astra 1P would provide TV broadcasting services throughout Europe.
