eVisit, a provider of virtual care solutions for health systems, has acquired the inpatient teleconsult technology platform of UPMC for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition expands eVisit's telehealth capabilities to serve health systems across ambulatory and inpatient care settings.
Developed by UPMC in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, the teleconsult technology facilitates quick virtual consultations between specialists and clinicians at the patient's bedside across various services like stroke, neurology, critical care, psychology, and toxicology. According to UPMC, the technology has resulted in a 92% decrease in wait times since its inception, with over 40,000 consultations delivered.
Alongside this acquisition, UPMC Enterprises, the health system's innovation arm, and MedStar Health, a not-for-profit telehealth provider, made an undisclosed investment in eVisit. eVisit did not disclose its planned use for the secured funds but noted that both UPMC and MedStar would pursue co-development opportunities with it and have the companies' representatives join eVisit’s advisory board.
