College of the Canyons (COC), a Californian public community college, received a three-year NASA grant of USD 136,000 for its Aerospace and Science Team to support the NASA High-Altitude Student Platform (HASP), RockOn, and RockSat-X suborbital rocket programs.
The grant will cover the launch fees for RockOn and RockSatX and the travel costs for students to visit NASA Wallops, RockSatX, RockOn!, and the NASA Columbia Science Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas.
The NASA HASP allows students to design, fabricate, and launch a scientific payload on a NASA scientific balloon that stays afloat in the stratosphere for ~16 hours. The NASA RockSat X provides the same opportunities for a payload aboard a NASA rocket. And the NASA RockOn! is a hands-on workshop for students without prior experience, helping them to assemble and launch a NASA experiment rocket.
