Joby Aviation, an NYSE-listed eVTOL developer, announced that it is considering flying passengers on air tours and market survey flights first instead of beginning commercial air taxi operations.
Joby expects its FAA 91-certified flights to be a soft opening, assisting the company in beginning its commercial operations in 2025, as promised to Joby's investors.
Joby is also working toward receiving FAA-type certification for its S4 aircraft by 2025 to begin commercial operations as part of the FAA Part 135 commuter and on-demand operations regulations. However, Part 135 requires pilots to train on high-fidelity simulators. Joby expects the training required for the S4 aircraft pilot to commence in August 2024.
