Wisk Aero, an eVTOL aircraft developer, acquired Verocel, a software verification and validation company that has worked with the aerospace industry for 25 years. Neither Wisk nor Verocel divulged any financial information about the purchase.
This acquisition's objective is for Wisk Aero to ensure the software security of its autonomous unmanned eVTOL, the Generation 6 aircraft, which would only be supervised by humans. Wisk Aero will integrate Verocel's team of 60 members into its operations. The members possess expertise in DO-178C, an FAA guidelines element standard for developing safety-critical software for airborne systems.
Analyst QuickTake: Wisk's acquisition resonates with Joby Aviation's acquisition of Avionyx in May 2022 . Joby acquired an aerospace software engineering firm, like Wisk Aero, to integrate and authenticate its software and speed up its aircraft's FAA certification.
